As you approach the penthouse floor at AltaVista there’s a comfortable corner couch on the terrace next to the front door where you can relax and watch the sunrise and sunset with extensive views of the mountains, valley, and ocean.

After entering the front door, a large hallway wardrobe is where you’ll store luggage and shoes, and access things for the beach and the building’s pool like floats and an umbrella.

The primary bedroom straight ahead has stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, the Colotepec River valley, and the secluded La Barra beach. Listen to the sounds of the waves as you fall asleep and enjoy the sunrise sky from your bed. The room includes a queen-sized bed and super comfortable mattress, desk, wardrobe, two night tables with convenient electrical and USB outlets for charging your devices, quiet ceiling fan, air conditioning with remote control, white noise machine, sun shade, and sliding glass door with screen to let in the breeze (but not the bugs). The stylish en suite bathroom has a double custom sink with two faucets, a large walk-in rain shower with views of the valley and mountains, plenty of counter space, drawers, plush towels, and amenities including shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

The bedroom to the right of the entrance with valley and mountain views and direct access to the front terrace can be used either as a bedroom or as a dedicated home office space complete with desk and chair—perfect for working remotely. (The penthouse also includes a dedicated, unobstructed Starlink satellite internet connection, a high speed Wi-Fi mesh network throughout the unit, and a battery backup to keep you connected to the internet for up to several hours in the event of a power failure.) In addition to the queen-sized bed and soft linens, the room contains a quiet ceiling fan, air conditioning with remote control, and a white noise machine. The en suite bathroom has a walk-in rain shower, custom sink, soft towels, and amenities including shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

The living room has a large, comfortable sectional with extra-wide seating for lounging, napping, and taking in the ocean views and the sound of the waves. The room includes a quiet ceiling fan and air conditioning with remote control, as well as a built-in bar table with stools for two—perfect for breakfasts or setting up your laptop. Sliding glass doors with screens provide guests with access to the rear terrace.

The kitchen with ocean views and windows with sliding screens has a custom granite countertop, an electric induction stove, refrigerator and freezer, multifunctional countertop oven, microwave, drip coffee maker, blender, juicer, large natural ceramic water filter, and all the cookware and utensils guests need to make delicious meals. A large sliding window over the countertop opens to the rear terrace bar where guests can hang out.

The shaded rear terrace is the perfect spot to relax, hang out at the table, and nap in the hammock while enjoying the incredible ocean views and breeze. The custom wood table seats six people (with a quiet ceiling fan above), and the kitchen barstools seat four.

Guests have exclusive access to the entire unit (via a keypad that allows self check-in) including both bedrooms and the front and back terraces. The second bedroom can be set up either as a dedicated home office or as a bedroom; let us know when you book how you’d like for it to be set up. Access to the closet in the unit with a washing machine and dryer along with an iron and ironing board is available to long-term guests staying two weeks or more.

Guests have shared access with other guests and condo owners to the building's large rooftop palapa (conveniently also located on the penthouse floor, so it feels like an extended outdoor living area) and the large infinity pool and terrace on the ground floor.

The La Barra neighborhood is a quiet escape from the nightlife in La Punta and Zicatela. Our neighbors are locals, other rental properties, and animals such as dogs, chickens, and goats.

The secluded La Barra beach is clean, beautiful, mostly empty, perfect for surfing (not for swimming due to the waves!) and beach walking, and only an 8 min walk downhill from AltaVista.

You may hear the sounds of dogs, chickens, turkeys, and other animals, as well as construction noise in the area.

This is a condo building with nine other units, so you may encounter owners and other guests as well.

The La Barra neighborhood is a quiet escape from the nightlife in La Punta and Zicatela, and there are only a few shops and restaurants within reasonable walking distance. A car or scooter is highly recommended for getting around (ask about a convenient scooter rental option when booking) or you can use our reliable taxi service to get where you need to go; it’s a 10 min drive to either La Punta or Zicatela. Meals and groceries can also be ordered and delivered by local courier.

The La Barra beach is an 8 min walk from AltaVista.
